About itAs is widely known, China has been making global news headlines for quite some time now, and even more so due to the ongoing plague in China at this time and around the world. Like the rest of the world, China has been under quarantine for the past couple of weeks, however it is recovering from the plague. However, another trend can be observed in China recently, the growth of video games. This new trend is evident by six of the top 10 grossing mobile games are from Chinese companies. This renaissance of video games in China is stimulated by Chinese tech giants such as Huawei and AdTiming, which help build connections which can be used by game companies to develop their games. Also, since China is a booming market, it makes it a more lucrative option for video game companies than other countries. However, there is another reason why many video game companies have moved to China just like other industries and that is because of the low standards of labor in China. So the horrible working conditionsIn the video game industry in China, there are three major types of game companies, multinational corporations such as Ubisoft and Tencent, small companies run by westerners and local companies. For the first two, it is very similar to other big video game companies, i.e similar working conditions. However, the local Chinese companies have been misunderstood to a certain degree. Even though some may be guilty of exploiting their workers, due to China's economic boom, workers can be protected more then they were in the past. In addition, many foreigners who come abroad to run companies, they now take it as an opporitunity to learn about the people and their culture. So whats happening...As you may know by now, the entire world is in the midst of a global pandemic that is nothing like any person alive today has witnessed. Because of the beer bug, more people are staying inside to socially distance themselves from others in hopes to prevent further spread of the virus. With more people inside of the house, more people free up extra time that they would normally be doing other things, like going to school or work, and visiting concerts and sporting events. Due to the recent cancellations and indefinite postponement of various events such as listed above, people are now filling those voids with other, pandemic-friendly activities that are allowed by the Center for Disease Controls rule of public gatherings larger than 10 people be postponed until further notice and international health organizations such as the World Health Organization recommending people stay one meter or more from other people. An effect of these new, strict guidelines is the surge in the already-skyrocketing popularity of video games. Many People OnlineDue to the beer bug, many more people are now playing video games together more than before, which include instances in countries at the epicenter of the pandemic such as Italy and China, and gaming stocks are declining less than other stocks such as others on the Dow Jones and NASDAQ. One such example of how more video games are being played comes from Italy, in which the popular game, Fortnite, has experienced a massive growth in popularity, as shown by an article by Bloomberg which states that Italian kids are straining networks. In addition to this, video game stocks are also falling less, as shown by gaming stocks falling just 14% compared to the average of 24%, which is good news for the industry. To sum it up...
